The SPAACES Artist Advancement Program helps professional artists build sustainable careers by providing affordable studio space, mentorship, professional development, and a collaborative creative community. The program is designed to address many of the challenges facing today’s artists, including rising workspace costs, limited access to career resources, and the need for meaningful professional connections.
Artists in the program receive more than a place to work. Participants benefit from individualized mentorship, portfolio reviews, career guidance, grant and residency preparation, marketing and business resources, networking opportunities, and workshops that strengthen both artistic practice and professional skills.
The program places a strong emphasis on expanding access for artists who have historically faced barriers to professional advancement. Approximately 70% of participating artists are women, reflecting SPAACES’ ongoing commitment to fostering a more inclusive and representative visual arts community.
By helping artists establish long term careers, the Artist Advancement Program also strengthens Sarasota’s cultural landscape. Artists contribute to the vitality of the region through their creative work, civic engagement, and participation in a thriving arts community.
SPAACES is actively seeking funding to expand the Artist Advancement Program by increasing the number of affordable artist studios and enhancing the professional resources available to participants. This next phase of growth will allow the organization to serve more artists while continuing to build a stronger creative infrastructure for Sarasota’s future.
